There are three levels of colony projects that afford significant production bonuses and other rewards, so they are not optional. The game play significance of this question is, in the absence of FTL communications, the nuisance factor of having to travel vast distances just to give a simple order to start a project on your colonies, then having to slog all the way back again to wherever you happened to be adventuring. It's not clear from your post whether in WH40K lore Astropaths are common enough for the average Rogue Trader to typically have a sufficient number on the payroll to cover their ship and all their colonies. ![]() Nor any sign of one on any of my two colonies. I've seen no sign of an Astropath on board the Rogue Trader's ship yet. I guess Vox works from orbit though as we see in 40K games etc. Other than super short ranged communication via Vox (radios), Astropaths are the only way to send messages even interplanetary. If not then you have to travel to sectors to meet literally personally with people, but that doesn't make sense. I don't have alpha access so I don't know if the Rogue Trader has an Astropath on board or not. Much like any ship travelling through it. The messages can become distorted or be consumed by the Warp however. They are soulbound/tethered to the Emperor to cleanse and reshape their minds/souls, so they can (more safely) project messages through the warp to other Astropaths at great danger to themselves over great distances. ![]() Originally posted by Balekai:Galactic Communications are handled by Psykers called Astropaths and are basically of similar importance as Navigators.
